Snatched The Rough

The chapel stile circuit tucked behind the chapel in chapel stile

A grey morning but I decided to head into the Langdale Valley for a morning session and another attempt at snatching the rough. I landed up at the Langdale boulders for about ten. It was cold with a hint of moisture in the air, making for ideal friction. The classic views down the valley were non-existent as the sky was grey and the morning mist clung to the hills. I got warmed up on the easier problems on the lower boulder, with the pick of the problems being the easy top arete(Click here). Then I climbed the 3 star classics of the Crack (V0 +/Fb 5), the overhang (V5/Fb 6c) and the Pocket (V5/Fb 6c) all found on the top boulder. Now properly warmed up I packed up my stuff, headed back to chapel stile to try and climb snatching the rough.
I stomped up the hillside and was cleaning the thin slanting layaways by half eleven ish. I pulled on using the layaways and a high a step, then grabbed the pinch with my left (see photo right) then snatched for the rough jug but couldn't quite hold it. This supprised me as it always took me ages to get this far on previous sessions, the warm up on the langdale boulders obviously had done me some good. Enthused I got back on but again couldn't hold the jug another half a dozen attempts and still couldn't land it. Harsh! Then I decided to try and snatch the finishing hold a bit further to the right. I pulled on lined up for the snatch and landed it. Fucking ace one three sessions of attempts and I got it. I then set up the camera and managed to repeat it a couple of times( easy when you know how!) Snatching the rough is my third V7/Fb 7a+ and probably the best i've done. A quality line on an esoteric circuit! (Click here for video).
