Wimberry

Grit fest 08 didn't get off to a great start today. Woke up to hear Yorkshire and the peak were covered with snow and that the glasgow boy's weren't getting going till late. I sat around in Lancaster looking at the snow covered hills and blue skys cursing my luck and feeling miserable after poor weather reports from Laurie in yorkshire and Danny in the peak.Eventually I got a call from glasgow Pete they were passing Penrith and Gthought the western side of the Pennines might be good for a tickle and we should head to Wimberry.By two I had hooked up with Glasgow Pete and Sully (SS) and we were trampling up the hillside in a search for some dry rock with snowless top outs. We were in luck the south facing side of the sugar loaf was dry. We all got stuck into the nice blunt arete problem at V3/Fb 6a+. After a few goes Sully and I managed to send it. Next stop was the sloping top boulder. Pete and I worked Fat Slapper a V4/Fb 6b+ blunt arete with a sloping top out. I managed to get it after a handful of goes Pete came close but the poor topping out holds wouldn't let him in. We all managed the slot a nice V2/Fb 5 problem on the south facing side of this boulder.
Then we headed up to the whale boulder. I really wanted to do the problem called think tank but it was wet. We had a play on a highball Fb 6c slab problem managing most of the moves but the wet finishing holds and snow covered top ment none of us got to top out.

There didn't seem like there was much more dry or climable rock as we wandered up to the Fish boulder. The beautiful Fish arete was wet along with most of the other problems on this boulder but we had a bit of luck and found a really nice short V4/Fb 6b+ rib problem. After Pete worked out the beta for us all, we all managed to get this problem.

We then called it a day and headed of to glasgow petes Chateux over in Yorkshire hoping for some more action the following day.
